Monopoly man – Old Post article

Interesting article from 2012 about one of the most eccentric real estate collectors in NYC history, Bill Gottlieb.  He drove the same dilapidated car, wore the same clothes everyday, schlepped a shopping bag full of business documents and continued to bartend at one of his restaurants in a building he owned at a time when he was worth millions.  

Somehow Gottlieb managed to amass a real estate portfolio that was valued in the hundreds of millions at the time of his death 20 years ago.  After he passed away, it is rumored that his family considered selling the portfolio for $200 million. Good thing they didn’t (for their sake) since the word is his portfolio is worth 10 times that today..
